๐ Split Rent
Privacy policy
Last updated 25 September 2026
Split Rent helps flatmates share rent and household costs. This page explains what the app stores, why, and how to delete it.
What we store
- Account: your name, email address and a securely hashed password. Your email is confirmed with a one-time code.
- House data you and your flatmates enter: houses you join, rent and expense amounts, notes, days away, chores, deposit entries, side splits and payment status.
- Optional: your UPI ID (so flatmates can pay you), photos and posts you share in your house feed.
- Device: a push notification token, if you allow notifications, to deliver reminders and updates.
How it's used
- To work out each person's share and show it to the people in your house.
- To send you codes (email confirmation, password reset) and notifications you'd expect, like rent-day reminders.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or use it for anything else.
Who can see it
- Only the members of a house see that house's data. Side splits are visible only to the people in them.
- If you report a post or comment, we receive a copy of it (with who posted it and who reported it) by email so we can review it. You can also block someone to hide their posts and comments from you.
- Service providers that run the app: our hosting provider (Hostinger), our email provider (Hostinger Mail), and Expo and Google Firebase for delivering push notifications.
Security
Data is sent over HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. Login tokens on your phone are kept in the device's secure storage.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app (House โ You โ Delete my account) or on the account deletion page. Deleting removes your name, email, password, UPI ID, notifications and the posts, comments, reactions and photos you shared. Shared money records your flatmates rely on (expenses, side splits, deposit entries) are kept so their totals stay correct. On those records you're shown as "Deleted user" with your first name in brackets (for example "Deleted user (Arun)"), only to the flatmates of that house, so they can tell whose old entries are whose.
Children
Split Rent is meant for adults sharing a home and isn't directed at children under 13.
